This is our Beginner Level:group for all ages down to 7 year olds who have never played the violin, cello or bass. Students are given a one hour group tutorial to help them develop their basic musical and string skills. After about 10 weeks it is expected that they will graduate to our Brumby String Orchestra.
Brumby String Orchestra
This junior string orchestra is aimed at students of primary school age, starting with 7 year olds with very limited string experience.
Students have a 30 minute tutorial each week, followed by 90 minutes of orchestra. They regularly perform in our own concert series.
Sculthorpe String Orchestra
This is our Senior Level Orchestra. This orchestra is for the more experienced players who have reached 3rd. grade AMEB level or greater and generally consists of high school students to adults on individual lessons. It is open to any school students by audition. Performs at a variety of community events including Australia Day and Blue Mountains Spring Festival and works with the Wollongong Conservatorium. Top members of the Grainger Band audition to join this orchestra to form a full symphonic orchestra when required.
This orchestra also forms a traditional fiddle orchestra performing dance tunes for Scottish Country Dancing and Bush Dancing at various local festivals and folk festivals.
St. George Symphony Orchestra
The core of this orchestra consists of the senior string players in the Sculthorpe String Orchestra, and the senior woodwind and brass players from the Grainger Concert Band. The minimum standard for this orchestra is about 5th grade AMEB
